Detailed Installation Process: From Plasterboard to a Stunning Finished Stove

Opening Up the Fireplace for a New Centrepiece

Upon arrival, we discovered that the original fireplace had been covered up by a plasterboard wall, hiding the potential to restore a focal point in the home.

Our first task was to locate the centre of the recess and carefully open up the space, ensuring the edges were squared off to provide a clean and modern finish.

This was essential to accommodate both the stove and hearth to regulatory standards and the customer’s aesthetic preferences.

Addressing Brickwork Challenges with A1 Fireboard

Once the recess was opened, we encountered the rough, uneven original brickwork, which posed a challenge to achieving the sleek, modern look the customer wanted.

Rather than leave the unsightly brick exposed, we opted to board over it with A1-rated fireboard, a safe and durable option that allowed us to tile the space efficiently.

The result? A beautifully tiled surround, featuring white and grey split-faced tiles that add a contemporary flair, perfectly complementing the stove.

Custom Oak Shelf and Flue Installation for a Complete Look

To finish off the aesthetic, we hand-crafted a bespoke oak shelf, cut fresh from the mill.

This oak sleeper, sanded and shaped on-site, was fixed as a floating shelf above the stove, adding a rustic yet polished touch to the room.

We then moved on to installing the flue liner, dropping it down the chimney and securing it with a pot hanging cowl for safety and longevity.

After sealing the recess and connecting the vitreous enamel pipe to the stove, we commissioned the MiFire Tinderbox Large, ensuring it was functioning perfectly and safely.

Overcoming Challenges in the Installation Process

One of the main hurdles we faced was the state of the original brickwork, which required additional preparation before tiling.

By using A1-rated fireboard, we ensured not only a smooth surface for tiling but also a fire-safe solution that blends functionality with style.

Another challenge was custom-fitting the hearth to meet both aesthetic and regulatory standards, but with careful measurements and precise cutting, we achieved a flawless fit.
