Installation of the MiFire Tinderbox Large: A Detailed Process
Our project centered around installing the MiFire Tinderbox Large, a robust 5KW multifuel stove, designed to bring both warmth and style to the client’s home.
The installation involved several key steps, each executed with precision and attention to detail.
Preparing the Fireplace and Hearth
The client took charge of constructing the fireplace and hearth, setting a solid foundation for the stove.
We then opened the roof and unblocked the chimney, ensuring it was ready for the flue installation.
This initial stage was crucial in establishing a safe and efficient pathway for the stove’s exhaust system.
Flue Installation: Selflex Liner and TW Pro
We began by dropping the Selflex liner down the chimney, a task requiring careful maneuvering to ensure it was securely in place.
The liner was then attached to a chest mounting plate, which we levelled and secured using bricks and compo.
The TW Pro flue, measuring 1 metre, was installed onto the mounting plate, providing a robust and durable solution.
We fitted lead flashing and reinstalled the roof slates, sealing the roof effectively. A storm collar was added, followed by the installation of an anti-downdraft cowl to enhance the stove’s performance and prevent backdrafts.
Interior Fittings: Registry Plate and Fire Placement
Inside the home, we installed a registry plate into the recess, followed by fitting a liner adaptor. This required precision cutting of the liner to the exact length needed.
The Tinderbox Large stove was then placed in the desired position, connected to the liner using a vitreous pipe, and meticulously levelled and centred.
To ensure everything was working perfectly, we conducted a smoke test and took a flue draught reading.
Final Touches and Customer Briefing
The final steps involved fitting a CO alarm and placing a data plate to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
We provided the customer with a detailed explanation of the stove’s basic usage, ensuring they felt confident in operating their new multifuel stove.
After a thorough cleanup of the work area, we packed up our tools, leaving the client with a beautifully installed, fully functional stove.
Overcoming Challenges: Roofing and Chimney Complications
One of the primary challenges of this project was the condition of the chimney and roof.
Opening the roof and unblocking the chimney required careful planning and execution to avoid any structural damage.
The chimney’s blockage was particularly stubborn, necessitating the use of specialised tools and techniques to clear it effectively.
Additionally, securing the flue within the roof structure posed its own set of difficulties, but our team’s experience and problem-solving skills ensured that these challenges were met with successful solutions.
