Transforming An Underutilised Fireplace

Our client had an outdated, disconnected gas fireplace in their living room which they wanted to replace with a wood-burning stove. After removing the non-functional Victorian-era gas fire and conducting an inspection of the original brick fireplace and chimney, we determined that a multifuel stove would be an ideal, efficient heating solution.

We began by disconnecting and removing the existing gas fireplace unit along with the ornamental centerpiece and wooden surround. This exposed the original brickwork that had been hidden away for decades.

After thoroughly cleaning and restoring the fireplace’s brickwork, we then sized and cut a bespoke Welsh slate hearth to perfectly fit the 30mm space. We located the existing chimney and dropped a flexible 316 Mi flue liner down through it, attaching a vitreous pipe connector to the stove itself. Finally, we installed a registration plate above the stove to maximise heat efficiency by containing it within the living space.

This multifuel stove blends classic style with contemporary ease-of-use features. Its 5kw heat output capably heats spaces between 150 to 260 cubic meters, ideal for snug terraced houses.

We selected a 316 Mi Flue liner for its durability and corrosion resistance. This flexible, double-skinned stainless steel flu liner ensures the stove performs safely and efficiently. The Acona Slider’s front-facing handle also enables smooth sliding to easily tend the fire. This multifuel stove accepts both wood fuel and smokeless coal while producing minimal emissions, making it a greener heating solution.
