Fireline FQ5W Installation: Opening Up the Original Victorian Fireplace
The house was already in the middle of a proper renovation when we arrived, which actually made our job quite interesting. We had to start by opening up the fireplace to its original Victorian size – these old terraced houses always had much bigger openings than you’d expect. The customer wanted the lintel raised to their specific requirements, so we carefully measured and adjusted everything to create the perfect opening for their new Fireline stove.
This wasn’t just about removing a few bricks though. We had to be really careful with the structural work, making sure everything was properly supported while we worked. The original fireplace had been bricked up for years, so it took some proper detective work to find out exactly where the original opening should be.
Roof Work and Flue Installation Challenges
One of the biggest challenges we faced was that the roof had been completely slated over – there was no existing chimney opening at all. This meant we had to open up the roof from scratch, which required careful planning to make sure we didn’t damage the surrounding tiles. Weather was a key factor here, as we needed a good clear day to get this part of the job done properly.
We installed a flexible liner and twin wall flue system on the roof, making sure everything was weatherproofed to perfection. The Selflex 5″ liner was perfect for this installation – it’s brilliant kit that gives you the flexibility you need when working with these older properties. Getting the twin wall flue positioned correctly took some proper measuring, but the end result looked spot on.
Multifuel Stove Installations: Hearth and Internal Fitting Work
Inside the house, we got busy creating a proper slate hearth that would both look the part and meet all the safety regulations. We cut and fitted the slate perfectly to size, laying it on a proper bed of sand and cement to ensure it was completely level and secure. This hearth work is crucial – it’s not just about looks, it’s about safety and giving your stove the solid foundation it needs.
The next step involved measuring and cutting the vitreous pipe to connect the flue to the fire. This is where precision really matters – everything has to line up perfectly, or you’ll have problems down the line. We take our time with this bit because getting it right first time saves everyone a lot of hassle later on.
Fireline FQ5W Stove Features and Performance Specifications
The Fireline FQ5W that we installed is an absolute cracking bit of kit. This multifuel stove Install in Llanelli really shows off what modern stove technology can achieve. With its impressive 81% efficiency rating, this stove means our customer will get maximum heat from every log or piece of coal they burn. The 5kW nominal output (with a maximum of 8.2kW) is perfect for heating their terraced home efficiently.
What really sets this stove apart is its massive glass viewing panel – much larger than the original 5 Wide models. The contemporary chunky square door design looks brilliant in modern homes, and the substantial cast iron door frame gives it that premium feel. The airwash system keeps the glass clean, so you always get a clear view of those lovely flames dancing away.
This particular model is also Ecodesign 2022 certified, DEFRA exempt, and clearSkies Level 5 certified. That means it can be used in smoke control areas and meets all the latest environmental standards – important stuff when you’re thinking about your carbon footprint.
Final Installation and Safety Checks
Once we had the Fireline FQ5W in position, we carried out all our standard safety checks and testing procedures. Every installation gets the full treatment – we don’t cut corners when it comes to safety. We fitted a carbon monoxide alarm as standard (you can never be too careful) and installed the data plate showing all the important installation details.
The testing phase is where we make sure everything’s working exactly as it should. We light the stove, check the draw, and make sure the airwash system is working properly. Our multifuel stove installers Llanelli team always stays until we’re completely satisfied that everything’s running perfectly.
The customer was absolutely chuffed with the final result. The new stove transformed their living room completely, giving them exactly the focal point they wanted for their renovation project.
